Up until October, 2000, Los Angeles-based artist THH70 had been painting on-and-off for 10 years, just for his own enjoyment and for the enjoyment of friends. THH70, a "persona" that this accomplished artist, as well as musician (he has been a touring keyboardist with the likes of Billboard Top 10 New Age recording artist Nicholas Gunn) identifies himself as in his artistic endeavors, has yet to be photographed, working under a shield of anonymity. In late October, an artist friend on the East Coast suggested he start posting drawings and paintings on the eBay website for sale. This daunting task began on November 1st, 2000, coinciding with the starting up of his own website (http://www.thh70.com). In the short 8 months that have followed, THH70 has sold an astonishing 200 + paintings and drawings, a feat that rivals even the most prolific artists of the modern art age. Fellow American artist, as well as another popular Internet art seller and Southern gallery artist, Matthew Staggs (http://www.matthewstaggs.com) has said about THH70, "THH70 is an artist who I greatly admire. His work has an undercurrent of wry
humor fused with this spontaneous quality of technique that references a wealth of pop-culture phenomena: everything from washed-up television actors to product labels and warning signs. It's very hard to describe, but you'll love it if you go check it out."
THH70’s paintings are inspired by a plethora of pop culture references and utilize many different forms of media, painting on anything from paper to canvas to cardboard, utilizing acrylic, spray paint, oil stick, as well as common household objects, such as X-14 mildew remover. His work hangs in private collections all over the United States, Canada, Asia, and Europe, hanging in homes next to such 20th century art luminaries as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Crash, Daze, and Futura 2000 and has a dedicated following of collectors that can’t wait to see what he’ll do next. His works have received comparisons to such Pop, Graffiti, and Modern artists as the aforementioned Jean-Michel Basquiat, William S. Burroughs, and Cy Twombly, among others. THH70 works at a frenetic pace and can crank out art in record time, never second-guessing his initial vision, although he works only when the inspiration hits him.
