Frank McCourt:
angela's ashes

Angelas Ashes by Frank McCourtRead this book when you feel as if life is rough and everything will be put into perspective. The Pulitzer Prize winning autobiography of Frank McCourt describes a life many of us will only read about.

The McCourt family is poor...unable to afford much of anything in life. The father, Malachy, an alcoholic who rarely works to support his family does provide his children some support in life. The mother, Angela, is one who will continue to believe even when reality proves otherwise. The children live in rags and rarely get enough to eat. When they do eat it is the bare minimun, nothing that remotely resembles nutrition. The kids also see several of their siblings die at young ages primarily from preventable diseases.

An interesting book that highlights the ability of man to overcome poverty and rise against the odds.
